Technical Curriculum Design

This strand of the Apprenticeship Workforce Development (AWD) offer will support colleagues to plan and deliver an effective curriculum, which successfully incorporates the needs of the learner and current employers.

This strand is split into two interlinked courses: 

  • Effective Curriculum Design in Practice
  • Principles and Models of Curriculum Design

Who is it useful for?

Teaching staff and leaders involved in apprenticeship curriculum design.

Effective Curriculum Design in Practice

This course covers:

  • Decoding apprenticeship standards into learning aims and outcomes
  • Practical approaches to planning and scheduling learning
  • Work with employers and understanding how to design an effective curriculum
  • Differentiating programmes for different cohorts or employers
  • Designing successful End Point Assessment (EPA).

Course delivery: Online course (AWD05): Effective Curriculum Design in Practice

Recommended 6 hours of self-guided learning.

Principles and Models of Curriculum Design

This course covers:

  • Underpinning theories of effective education practice 
  • Practical and theoretical skills for designing an effective curriculum
  • The role of good maths, English and digital skills
  • Designing effective online learning programmes 
  • Supporting learners from a range of backgrounds
  • Mitigating impact of external influences.

Course delivery: Online course (AWD06): Principles and Models of Curriculum Design

Recommended 6 hours of self-guided learning.
